This coffee is sourced by Cooperativa Regional Mixta de Agricultores Organicos de la Sierra (RAOS), an association with 200 members who produce coffee on small family-owned farmers in the Marcala growing region within the department of La Paz, Honduras. Coffee produced in the Marcala region has a protected designation of origin (DENOMINACION DE ORIGEN CAFE DE MARCALA) to preserve the renowned reputation of the Marcala brand. RAOS was founded in 1997 and is the first cooperative of small and medium organic coffee producers in Honduras. Leaf rust has caused considerable damage in the Marcala region. RAOS is supporting the recovery with financing that has helped members start nurseries to replace damaged coffee trees and add additional shade trees. In the past, these small coffee farmers have won several awards.

Tasting notes include caramel, red fruits and chocolate. This coffee is grown at an elevation of 4,500 feet in the Intibuca Department of the Western Highlands. The mountains are full of pine and oak trees, with valleys covered in vegetation due to the tropical soils that are always full of moisture.

Honduras is a Central American country with Caribbean Sea coastlines to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the south. In the tropical rainforest near Guatemala, the ancient Mayan ceremonial site Copán has stone-carved hieroglyphics and stelae, tall stone monuments. In the Caribbean Sea are the Bay Islands, a diving destination that's part of the 1,000 km-long Mesoamerican Barrier Reef. Honduras borders Guatemala to the north, El Salvador to the west, and Nicaragua to the south.
